[i]windsorblue: (no subject)

I was going to throw my lot in with the Festivus crowd and have an Airing of the Grievances today, but by the time the day was over, I only felt like bitching about the boy's father being equal parts suck and fail, and really, haven't we all heard enough about that?

Have a short movie mashup of Episode III and Clerks instead.

[i]anneheathen: Finn Throws a Fit

Finn Throws a Fit Finn Throws a Fit by David Elliott, illustrated by Timothy Basil Ering

Right from the cover, the illustrations draw you into this book. Finn's state of mind is clear from the grumble cloud above his head and the way he's clutching his blanket around him. Ering's illustrations are charcoal, oil paint, and grease pencil and the combination of materials with his style perfectly show how changeable the world truly is. One never knows if one will still like peaches today, and the lines sometimes feel unstable. Finn's fit is a thunderstorm and you can just feel that urge to lash out and stomp around. The brilliant moment comes with the line, "It lasts until it doesn't" and we're all left with that aftermath feeling, wondering why it was such a big deal to begin with. Elliott and Ering have clearly spent some time around little ones.

Highly recommended. Reviewed from library copy.

[i]windsorblue: I have nothing really interesting to post about

- I love my boy. I love my beau. I love my sweet, psychotic dog. But between the three of them, my house looks like a cosplayer's hotel room on a Sunday morning. -_-;;

- At the store this morning, one of the tabloids at the register had a headline claiming Paul Newman and Steve McQueen had been lovers. I admit it - I squeed.

- I tagged along with a friend who was going car shopping yesterday and test-drove a Mini Clubman. I kind of loved it. The Honda of Doom needs to last me for at least six more months before I can even entertain the notion of affording a new car, but still.

So. What are you guys up to today?
